To the left are the two button stamps that this is about! One is solid and the other is open. I realize they have a different pattern of holes, but that doesn't matter in this case.
What I want to achieve is to have lots of shiny buttons in different pastel colors and they are supposed to have 4 holes. I don't have that many pastel colored embossing powders and the solid button stamp only has two holes. So what we will do is a two-step stamping and embossing that is so easy to achieve with acrylic stamps, no need for a stamp positioner because you can see right where you are putting the stamp. If you are slightly off with your overstamping, it really doesn't matter because the heat embossing will "fuzz out" a slight mishap in stamping.
On a light card stock of your choice stamp your image(s) and of course lots of buttons. The open kind, with a dark or black ink. I used versafine so that I can color the buttons with dye ink.
Next, color your image with a desired palette. I chose all pastel colors and used Stampin Up dye ink markers (Marvy Uchida LePlume II would be similar). You can stamp and let the image air dry, or speed up the process with your heat gun. Once set, the markers will not muddy up from the stamped image.
Now ink up your SOLID button stamp with versamark (Tsukineko) or any other clear embossing ink and stamp over all your colored buttons. With versamark you can stamp all buttons first before rushing to emboss, the ink will stay wet for quite a while. It doesn't matter how you orient your solid button stamp, nobody will know or see the two dots in the button. So just dab your stamp into the ink, look down from top, line up stamp with your colored button and press down and proceed to the next one.
Now this is fun: cover all your buttons with clear embossing powder. It can be regular, doesn't have to be "detail". Shake excess off and emboss each button with your heat gun. Watch your colored buttons turn shiny with a nice pastel color underneath.
You can do this with any stamp that has a solid area, like a silhouette stamp. You don't need two different stamps for this like with the buttons, I just thought these were fun to do! All stamps from the Whispers of Dreams set will work. . You just use the same stamp for color stamping and then clear embossing.
All that's left to do is finish your project, for instance in a scrap book page:
